One of the funniest elements of Hulu Only the murders in the building It is the fact that Steve Martin plays Charles Haden-Savage, a former television star, which leads to a number of references to how famous he was decades ago. The most recent example was the second season which revealed that in the late 1980s he released “Angel in Flip Flops”, which would become a hit single in Germany. Steve Martin (co-author, EP, and star) said of the track, “I’m just as proud of ‘Angel in Flip Flops’ as I’m any work I’ve done that isn’t good.”
John Hoffman (co-creator, model, EP) added, “When the idea came to light in our writers’ room at Charles-Haden Savage, at the height of his success with his original book Brazos Series, maybe after I recorded an album that was really good in Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall, we knew we had to talk more about it – right away! And so we did—and when we shared this idea with Steve Martin—well, I guess it was a day (if he was?) before Steve got a title and tune working its way through his genius mind and we were more than getting out and running. Steve co-worked with Kirker Butler to craft a classic of the late twentieth century, then incredibly Paul Shaffer came to arrange that classic that is now “Angel In Flip-Flops.” We all hope to revive interest in tone, of course – in Germany and all over the world without walls! “
The new season was described, “After the horrific death of Arconia Chairman Bunny Folger, Charles, Oliver and Mabel race to uncover her killer. However, three (unfortunate) complications ensued – the trio were publicly implicated in the bunny murder, now the subject of a rival podcast, And they have to deal with a bunch of neighbors in New York who all think they’ve committed murders.”
